Hello, I’m Despina and I am an artist and event co-ordinator. My home is the beautiful Greek island of Skiathos where, for over 30 years, working closely within my community, I’ve used my artistic passion in variety of different ways, some of which are listed briefly below.
For full details and photos please visit my separate ‘pages’.
More recently, my work and services have taken me further afield to the Greek mainland and beyond. If you are looking for assistance with an artistic project of any kind, be it a painting, a mural for your home or business or an event like a wedding or baptism, I can help so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
FINE ART PAINTINGS
Working mostly to commission, I can paint a wide range of subjects, in your choice of style, media and size. For many years I have regularly participated in (and organised) art exhibitions, both in my native Skiathos Town and in Athens.
My work adorns the interior and exterior walls of many restaurants, hotels and private homes all over Skiathos Island and beyond.
My speciality is painting children’s rooms with colourful fantasy, humourous cartoon characters or ethereal mythical themes.
BYZANTINE ICONOGRAPHY – I am classically trained in this ancient discipline and several of my works can be found in some of the many churches dotted all over the island.
NEW! ONLINE SHOP. HAND-PAINTED T SHIRTS, CUSHIONS, BAGS & TEA TOWELS – I supply my own range of original designs to both private individuals and commercial outlets. Each item is a unique work of art; hand-painted, signed and embellished with crystal components (optional). Made from 100% cotton, they are fully washable and can be personalised. They come in a wide range of colours and in both adult and children’s sizes and are available online at: http://www.maregaia.gr They make wonderful gifts!
ART CLASSES – As an art tutor at ‘Painting Skiathos’ art centre I enjoy teaching the traditional technique of iconography to students visiting Skiathos from all over the world during the summer months.
TV PRESENTING – With fellow local artist, Anna Deliyianni, I co-hosted popular TV specials and ‘Passion & Fantasy’, a series of more than 30 episodes of seasonal arts and crafts programmes for the local NET TV station.
COMMUNITY – Over the years, working closely with the Skiathos Municipality and several local organisations and charities (particularly ALKI, our Society for Children with Special Needs, using art as therapy) I have helped to organise many major events. I am committed to raising public awareness (and funds) for a variety of social, ecological and cultural issues.
EVENT PLANNING: WEDDINGS, BAPTISMS, PRIVATE, CORPORATE & CIVIC FUNCTIONS – Whether you’re looking for assistance with a single table centerpiece or someone to organise an entire event, I and my team can help. Our services are individually tailored to suit all budgets whatever the occasion.
Our aim is simply to ensure your every wish is realised and with the benefit of local knowledge, our many contacts and years of first-hand experience, anything is possible, even dressing a donkey for a bride’s entrance, ‘Mama Mia!’ style.
WEDDING FLOWERS – From a single Boutonniere or a pretty hand-tied Bridal Bouquet to elegant floral arrangements adorning the Church, Registry Office, Reception or Party venue, we can advise on and provide all your flower requirements.
SEASONAL FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS – In all our arrangements we use either exotic imported blooms or the locally sourced natural flora of the island such as olive, pomegranate, aromatic wild sage, oregano and bay – which are particularly suited for Christmas wreaths and Easter Decorations.
Please visit the tabs at the top of this page to view more examples of my work and if you would like any further information, please use the comment box to contact me directly. I’ll be happy to discuss your personal requirements.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your visit!
